Is the XUV 400 EV Mahindra’s answer to Tata Nexon?

After showcasing the 5 upcoming futuristic SUVs on August 15, 2022, Indian automaker Mahindra has launched their first all-electric SUV, i.e., the XUV400 in India.

It is the upgraded version of the Mahindra XUV300 (the ICE variant) with a few updates. These include- a new LED headlamp, a new bumper, and even new rims. According to the noted carmaker, the full charge range of the XUV400 will be 456 km. But that’s in terms of “MIDC,” which means Modified Indian Driving Cycle and a top speed of 150km/h.

The Mahindra XUV400 will compete against some of the leading names in the current EV market in the country. These, unfailingly, include- Tata Nexon EV, Nexon EV max, and MG ZS EV, to quote a few.

Feature-wise, the XUV 400 is equipped with 60 class-leading connectivity features, one of whose premium features includes smartwatch connectivity. Premium sporty interior, electric sunroof, best-in-class cabin space, and a rear parking camera.

However, that being said, the latter, as per many, may seem like a regular feature given how so many cars in the contemporary age anyways offer a parking camera. Nonetheless, Mahindra’s latest offering in the EV space is a robust product that’s an absolutely green offer. It thus gives a rare prospect of power and performance.

Though, the latter will be a lot clearer a few months from now.

Furthermore, the recent launch has a 39.4 kWh battery pack with torque output from the motor of 147HP – 310 Nm and can achieve 0-100km/h in 8.3 sec. Impressive?

That being told, what must be noted is that Mahindra always cares about the safety of the customer and passengers.  The XUV 400 comes with 6 airbags, dust, and a waterproof battery pack.

The car misses out on ADAS safety technology. Is that a massive letdown? Who knows?

Time will tell.

The 7.2 kW/32A charger takes approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes, while the 3.3 kW/16A charger takes approximately 13 hours and 30 minutes to fully charge the vehicle. The all-electric SUV will come with a 16” wheel size, and all-wheel disc brakes.

The price of the Mahindra XUV400 EV is expected to start from INR 17 lakhs and may even go up to INR 21 lakhs. Finally, the booking will start in January 2023. Ready to order one?
